Patients for Medical Cannabis 
I have a 14 yr old son who was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia. He has just been prescribed Lyrica to try to help treat his pain. I have been studying up on this drug and have concerns about the side effects. Do you know of any current clinical research being done for treatment of fibromyalgia with canibanoids? We live in Colorado where medical marijuana is legal and available to patients who would benefit from it’s use. Unfortunately he is on probation right now and being given urinalysis tests. I need to gather more medical information to bring in front of a judge supporting my desire to treat my sons disease with a more effective, less damaging and more cost efficient medicine. ANY help with information or ideas on how to handle my situation greatly appreciated

Possibly the very earliest literature reference on Cannabis describes its use as an anti-inflammatory agent. The Chinese emperor Shen-nung (ca. 2000 B.C.), in a work called Pen-ts’ao Ching, noted many of the effects of Cannabis in humans. Among other properties, it was claimed that cannabis “undoes rheumatism”, suggesting possible anti-inflammatory effects (122). The reports described in this review of the current literature provide support for the claims made by the ancient Chinese healers. Fibromyalgia is now conceived as a central sensitization state with secondary hyperalgesia. Cannabinoids have similarly demonstrated the ability to block spinal, peripheral and gastrointestinal mechanisms that promote pain in headache, fibromyalgia, IBS and related disorders.
