Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren backs medical cannabis

From the Raw Story (go here to read the article)

Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren (D) said Monday that she favors legalizing medical marijuana, provided the law has “the right restrictions” to prevent people who aren’t actually sick from getting the drug.

Speaking with Boston talk radio station WTKK-FM, Warren recalled holding her father’s hand as he died from cancer and explained “there was some conversation” about whether medical marijuana would have helped him.

“It puts me in a position to say, if there’s something a physician can prescribe that can help someone who is suffering, I am in favor of that,” she said. “I want to make sure they’ve got the right restrictions, it should be like getting any other prescription drug, that there’s careful control over it. But I think it’s really hard to watch someone suffer that you love.”

      • I concur. Amazing that we still have to talk about medical marijuana “restrictions” in 2012. Incredible. Still, if all goes well with this legislation a move to Massachusetts may be in my future. I don’t even have a desire to smoke, I just have a desire for, you know, justice, freedom, things just being the way they should be in the first place. God, sorry, this is such a frustrating issue. Unfortunately, I’ve lived in the state of Missouri, which has some of (if not the worst) medical marijuana restrictions. I think this article is encouraging, though. I really can’t see them NOT at least allowing it for medical use on a national level in ten years… but then I probably felt the same way in 2002. At its core, it’s an issue of freedom. Keep fighting, and sorry for the long-winded response. Just had my espresso this morning. 🙂

        • Please feel free to comment-while-caffeinated here anytime! I agree with everything you said.

Imagine living in one of the many states with no medical marijuana program whatsoever 😉
