THC kills brain tumor cells

Using the same tests used to judge new chemotherapies, the SETH team discovered that this herbal compound kills human brain tumor cells at a concentration that is nontoxic to normal brain cells. A computerized microscope captured images of the cells every 5 minutes to compile the time-lapse videos. After 20 hours of treatment,  9-THC kills all cancer cells but leaves normal brain cells alive. Cell death is evidenced by cells shrinking to inanimate white spheres.

This is a repeat of studies done in 1974 by researchers at the  Medical College of Virginia, who had been funded by the National Institute of Health to find evidence that marijuana damages the immune system, found instead that THC slowed the growth of three kinds of cancer in mice — lung and breast cancer, and a virus-induced leukemia.

February, 2000 Researchers in Madrid injected the brains of 45 rats with cancer cells, producing tumors whose presence they confirmed through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). On the 12th day they injected 15 of the rats with THC and 15 with Win-55,212-2 a synthetic compound similar to THC. “All the rats left untreated uniformly died 12-18 days after  glioma (brain cancer) cell inoculation …  Cannabinoid (THC)-treated rats survived significantly longer than control rats. THC administration was ineffective in three rats, which died by days 16-18. Nine of the THC-treated rats surpassed the time of death of untreated rats, and survived up to 19-35 days. Moreover, the tumor was completely eradicated in three of the treated rats.” The rats treated with Win-55,212-2 showed similar results.

The SETH Group performed this experiment in 2004 and was published in The Journal of Neuro-Oncology (2005), volume 74, pages 31-40. http://thesethgroup.org

Implications:  No chemotherapy can match this nontoxic anti-cancer action. The implication is that this plant compound could be a safe medicine against brain tumors, without the side effects of chemotherapy.  These exciting results may be just the tip of the iceberg, however, because Δ9-THC is only one of many active compounds in medicinal cannabis.  Other active constituents of the Cannabis plant (called cannabinoids) are also likely to have a nontoxic anti-cancer action.

Smoking Marijuana Does Not Cause Lung Cancer

  1. my grandmother had lung cancer, the tumor was the size of an orange and doctors gave her 3 months max to live. The only thing missing in her life was marijuana which she had smoked since she was in her teens. she was at the time of diagnosis living in a nursing home for a few years. I began bringing her marijuana again, and to the doctors amazement the tumor completely disappeared within 6 months she lived another 3-4 years and passed from unrelated illness at the age of 91 smoking marijuana the majority of her life.she was a native American.

  2. Hi, my father has lung cancer and I started giving him cannabis oil, but he´s been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. Is there any chance of having a heart problem due to increase in cardio frequency ?? He is 86 years old, thanks

    • I asked biochemist Dennis Hill, he says:

“Cardiac fibrillation is commonly caused by insulin spikes that disrupts the cardiac electrolytes of magnesium and potassium, due to sugar in the diet. Cannabis will have no effect on this. Reducing sugar should reduce the a-fib, and also help the lung cancer; since sugar feeds cancer. Hope this might be useful in some way.”

      Dennis added:

“I think it’s safe to continue the cannabis oil even in the presence of atrial fibrillation. Cannabis has been shown to be supportive and therapeutic in all tissues, including heart. I’ve not seen any literature that suggests there is a concern.”

  3. Hi…my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer which had spread up to liver and kidney in January this year. She started taking medical cannabis oil since than and her pet in July showed that cancer had almost cleared in the body…however we again did pet scan last week in November but this time it showed multiple mets in brain…however her lungs remain cleared.

Just wanted to know if cannabis oil worked well in the body, then why didn’t it do in brain. How come cancer spread up to brain? Is that something we are missing on? Plz help…

    • I shared your question with Dennis, he says:

Very sad about the brain tumor. There is not nearly enough information here to assess the situation. We don’t know the analysis of the oil, its composition and potency, or whether it had been decarboxylated. We know from the literature that THC is strongly neuroprotective and is a very potent killer of brain cancer. So I suspect there is a problem with the oil. CBD is more effective in breast cancer, and THC is more effective in brain cancer. This is all I can think of. Hope the patient can heal from the brain tumor. Both together is the best treatment.

    • It needs to be very high in THC so the best way to no that you are getting the beat treatment for you money is to grow it and make your own oil or rso gho what look up rick Simpson on YouTube you can contact him some how he’s in Canada he would be your best option doctor put way to much thought into the process

  4. We know that cannabis kills cancer, no matter stage 1 or stage 4. In the literature there are many reports of people in late stage cancer that have improved substantially. There is no harm in using cannabinoid nutraceuticals, so, nothing to lose. ~Dennis

  5. Hello ..
2 weeks ago my husband was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme grade 4. Is there a difference between consuming cannabis oil or smoking weed. Which method is more effective?
